Have you got a question about Kaylex Tech's services or need to know the difference between a Responsive website and a Dynamic site? Check out our Frequently asked questions or send us an email.
A responsive website is a site that changes it's display dependant on the screen size of the device it is being viewed on, it's often refered to as being a Mobile Responsive site. Today 98% of sites are responsive, the term is used more as a marketing tool than anything else as all modern sites should be responsive.
The term responsive is quite often used interchangeably with the term static, but there is a difference. A static website generally has its contents hard coded into the pages, therefore it is static, the content can't be changed unless the code is changed. Today all static websites should also be responsive.
The difference between a static website and a dynamic website is that a dynamic site is able to change what's displayed to the user programmatically, usually by pulling the content from a database. It allows for greater user interactivity, allowing for user logins, shopping carts and backends where administrators can add components or pages without having to change the base code. Wordpress is an example of a Dynamic Website. As with static sites all modern dynamic sites should be responsive.
All of our websites are responsive
We offer two different services when it comes to hosting. You have the choice between having a Hosted Site or a Self-Hosted site.
Hosted sites are a set and forget solution for your business. Kaylex Tech hosts your site on our Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud platform. This ensures ultra fast and secure delivery of your site to your customers at a fraction of the cost of purchasing the server yourself
Another benefit of using a hosted solution is that we maintain the server and are able to upgrade the speed and resource to meet demand of our clients with no aditional cost to you. It also makes it possible to do upgrades to your site effortlessly
Self Hosted Solutions mean that we deliver the completed site to the server of your choice, we will setup and install the site at no additional charge, this is optional as some clients prefer to do this themselves.
Google's search engine uses a variety of methods to rank your website, some such as site maturity can only be achieved through time, others such as relevant page content are achieved by the content you add to the site. However, there are several important factors that can only be achieved through website programming.
4 important factors from a developer SEO point of view that increases site rankings are:
We ensure that all of these requirements are meet in the development stage of your website. Static sites have the header description hard coded into the page. Our Dynamic sites have the ability to add the text through the sites backend.
Payment is straight forward, we want you to be 100% happy with your site before you part with your hard earned cash. Once you commission Kaylex Tech to built your site, we will commence work. Before uploading the site to either our server or yours we will seek your approval. Once you approve the site we ask for payment and then once the site has been paid for it will go live.
Google uses site speed as one of the signals used by its searchbots to rank pages. Therefore having a slow site could negatively affect your search engine ranking. Page speed is also important to user experience, pages with a longer load time have higher bounce rates and lower average time on the site and negatively affects customer conversions.
A report from Akamai Technologies in 2017 found:
The average time it takes to fully load a mobile landing page is 22 seconds. However, 53% of visits are abandoned if a mobile site takes longer than 3 seconds to load. thinkwithgoogle.com
There are 4 major factors that effect the site loading speed
While we can't predict what a users internet connection will be or thier device, we can build the site to cater to these slower devices, this is why minimalistic website designs have become more popular in the last few years.
We can control the server by ensuring that we use a server powerful enough to render our sites quickly and ensure the underlying code of the site is optimized for high preformance
Our sites are designed to load in under 2 seconds
You must think of your host as an investment in your business. Opting for the cheapest hosting service you can find on the internet may be detrimental to your business, after all there is no point in investing your time and money into building a website that site will never be seen by anyone. There are several things that you need to consider when purchasing website hosting.
You can find webhosting from $2.95 a month from a variety of hosting companies, these are their base plans. There are things that you need to take into account when using these base services.
This is not to say that these hosting companies are to be avoided, simply that the base package may not be right for your needs. Ideally you would want a dedicated IP address, running on a Virtual Private Server (VPS) with dedicated resources- storage, data transfer limits and processing power that meets the requirements of your website. This will cost extra, but it's ultimately worth the investment
To give an example using 2 popular webhosting companies the investment would be:
|A2 Hosting VPS with dedicated IP address|
|Unmanaged VPS- designed for developers that understand how to configure a server||$29.99 to $69.99 a month|
|Managed VPS - includeds C-Panel a user interface that allows users to configure the server through an easy to use interface||$49.95 to $119.95 a month||GoDaddy VPS with dedicated IP address|
|Self-Managed VPS||$29.99 to $149.99 a month|
|Managed VPS - high RAM||$104.99 to $194.99 a month|
Dedicated Servers are also available, however these are most likely well beyond the needs of most businesses unless you are dealing with large volumes of sales or require extra security for sensitive data. It's recommended to get a networking professional to set-up these services
There are two reasons why we charge more for a Self-Hosted site. Firstly, it's more time consuming and slightly more complicated for us to set-up the site on a different server and secondly when we deliver a site to your platform you are getting a copy of the source code as well as the site, you're purchasing a licence to use that code on an independant server. This is because elements of the source code have taken months to write and develop. Whereas when purchasing a Hosted solution you don't have direct access to the source code therefore you don't pay for a licence. See Pricing
Wordpress was truly innovative when it was first released in 2003. It was one of the first platforms to be Server Side Rendered, delivering interactive dynamic websites to people world wide. Even now it is estimated that 38% of all websites use Wordpress. It features an arguably user friendly backend for easily adding content and shopping cart integration. Not to mention that the base code is Open Source, so yes it's free to that point.
So why not use Wordpress or Joomla or another open source option?
Basically in our opinon, (which would be hotly debated by Wordpress lovers) because it was released in 2003, pre-smartphones and it's open sourced it is no longer the best option for your website.
Wordpress is written in HTML (a natural browser language - that's a good thing) and PHP. PHP is a mature programming language, very reliable however depending on the application and the server it's not as fast as more modern languages and frameworks. Whilst PHP has been updated over the years it was written in 1995, 12 years before Apple released the first iPhone.
Another factor to consider is the types of databases both Wordpress and Joomla run on.Both of these platforms use what's known as structured databases. MySql being the most commonly used. Being a structured database means that all data is setout in a particular table, it makes connecting and retrieving infomation for a dynamic site very straight forward for a developer. However, in recent years noSql databases have become more popular for use in websites and mobile applications. Popular noSql (non-structured) databases include MongoDB and Amazons DynamoDB. MongoDB claim that their noSql or non-rational database can deliver content to the server up to 100x faster than structured databases.
The other issue we have found with WordPress is that it's open sourced, I know crazy right, how could something that is free be a problem?
Now before all of the Wordpress lovers get too upset, let us justify what we're saying. Wordpress and Joomla are developed by a brillant team of very knowledgeable experienced developers who were kind enough to give access to their program for free. The problem lies with people who have less noble intentions than the Wordpress developers.
Wordpress sites have the highest hacking rates of all sites on the internet. This once again is not the fault of the developers. They are hacked so often because the source code is available to everyone. A hacker can look at the code, find a point to exploit and then write a bot to scour the internet looking for and hacking those sites. There are plugins available to enhance security, but once again most are open source or loaded into a server where the Hacker can see the code and then write a script to hack the plugin or by-pass it. It's a cat and mouse situation. Firewalls on the server do help, not just for Wordpress sites, but they need to be configured properly.
Other factors that needs to be considered are the plugins and site templates, some free, the better ones you need to pay for. These can quite often bloat your site with unnecessary code which can slow your site down considerably. I've seen sites take up to 5 seconds longer to load just by changing a site template.
So is Wordpress truely free?
Whilst the base code is free, to properly setup a Wordpress site will cost you money. The better templates are paid, other than the ones that come installed with it that are optimized for the platform. If you want anything added to the site's design you'll need to pay a developer to modify the template or code. To ensure the sites security you'll need to pay a cyber security expert to setup firewalls, install software or pay for security add-ons. Then you'll need to pay for a server that is powerful enough to load your page faster than the other 38% of sites that use WordPress on the internet.
We host your site on our AWS (Amazon Web Services) scalable EC2 Instance. Whilst this is a shared host as the cloud server is scalable the server automatically adapts to requirements of each site, when sites are busy it allocates more bandwidth and processing power. When the resources are no longer required it scales back to meet it's current requirements. This ensures that all sites hosted by us run at their optimal preformance levels no matter the time of day or the amount of traffic the server is processing.
Internationalization refers to a sites ability to serve content in different languages. In days gone-by this was normally done by either having a link or button where the user could change the language, using geo-location to detect where in the world the users device was located, this didn't help much if you were on holiday in a country that spoke a foriegn language or by detecting the browser language of the user. The site would then redirect to a complete copy of the site in that language.
Now, with the use of server side rendering we can detect the language used by the browser and then either load a translation file from a database or file on the browser. Internationalization is built into our eCommerce and Responsive sites, you just need to add the translations for your target audience. It can also be added into our base Responsive site for an additional fee.
No, we don't include email hosting in our packages, this is primarily for security. We highly recommend keeping your email server on a totally different server with a different IP address, that way if your email is hacked and the address is blacklisted your site won't be.
We recommend either Zoho Mailor Gmail for Business to securely host your email server, both are very reasonably priced and come with additional services.
